Week 9 Agenda and Learning Goals

Monday:

ELA: Students will be able to define vocabulary from a literary text.

SS: Students will be able to define and visually represent their vocabulary words for Chapter 2, Lesson 2.

Homework: Make ELA vocabulary flash cards.  Finish SS vocabulary worksheet.  Submit Seedfolks test corrections by Wednesday.

Tuesday:

ELA: Students will be able to use a mentor author and text, Jerry Spinelli’s Maniac Magee, to write a sample hero origin myth.

SS: Students will be able to read a text and summarize the main points using a GIST template.

Homework: Finish Hero Origin Myth Introduction.  Study ELA vocabulary flash cards for test on Monday 10/12.  Submit Seedfolks test corrections by Wednesday.

Wednesday:

ELA: Students will be able to ask and answer questions and make predictions about the prologue of Maniac Magee.  Students will be able to practice the reading strategy of browsing through a new book and reflecting on what they notice.

SS: Students will be able to describe the difference between latitude and longitude, and utilize latitude and longitude points to locate places on a map.

Homework: Finish unfinished class work. Study ELA vocabulary flash cards for test on Monday 10/12.

Thursday:

ELA: Students will be able to analyze story elements by drawing conclusions about events and characters and supporting conclusions with textual evidence.  Students will be able to identify examples of stereotypes in the book.

SS: Students will be able to draw a map of their home, including a legend and an inset.

Homework: Finish unfinished class work. Study ELA vocabulary flash cards for test on Monday 10/12.

Friday:

ELA: Students will be able to analyze story elements by drawing conclusions about events and characters and supporting conclusions with textual evidence.  Students will be able to identify examples of stereotypes in the book.

SS: Students will be able to review and answer questions regarding information learned throughout the week about links with people from the past.

Homework: Finish unfinished class work. Study ELA vocabulary flash cards for test on Monday 10/12.
